RV Memories - Kitt Peak, Sonoran Glass School & Cute Chicks
This video is evidence of exactly why I could never be a successful YouTuber.
When I’d set out on my RV journey from California in May of 2018, I thought perhaps I’d gather a following of viewers interested in my trip as a solo female, first time RV’er. I’d been watching so many videos of women who’d hit the road in their RV’s, hit the record button and created great content for their thousands of viewers.
I had two magnetic signs made with my name, Patty Blue Hayes, and the YouTube and FaceBook icons clearly visible. I put one on the driver and passenger doors - attached with double backed duct tape as my cousin had suggested in order to enhance the sticking power.
I might as well have just thrown $35 bucks out the window.
On some road, somewhere, something in the side mirror caught my eye - at first I thought it was a bird. Then, I elongated my spine, peered over to see a bit further down in the side mirror to clearly confirm the damn sign had flown off.
For a few hundred miles, I kept the remaining sign inside the RV facing out the window. A tinted window. No one could really see the black vinyl sign through the darkened window. Somewhere between upstate New York and Connecticut, I got the courage up to stick the sign on the driver’s side door.
The magnet sign stayed there for a while. Until I was on some small side street of all places. It was a two lane road with no traffic. I was going about 60 mph and heard the familiar thwap of a magnet sign breaking free. I slowed down. But I never did stop. I knew by that time that I was not going to be a YouTuber because I had uploaded only four videos over a period of six months.
My hope is, someone found that magnet sign, painted over it with their business information and is smart enough not to drive at high speeds or in windy conditions. I like to think I supported a small business owner rather than being a litterer.
But, hey! Now I have content to make videos with during quarantine. Even though our quarantine here in Panama is almost over. If there’s another quarantine - I’ll have plenty of material to make videos. Can’t guarantee I will, though. But the option is there and it will be a surprise both to you and me if I edit them together and publish them.
For now, enjoy the journey back in time before Panama Patty.
